Director of information in the ministry of information and digitization commends MERP project

Director of Information in the Ministry of Information and Digitalization, Chikumbutso Mtumodzi, has commended the Malawi Education Reform Programme (MERP) communication strategy, saying that it aligns with the country’s communication strategy. Delivering his keynote address today at the MERP Communication Strategy Validation Workshop in Mponela, Dowa, Mtumodzi emphasized that modern communication practices are moving towards social accountability and holding duty-bearers accountable, as outlined in the Malawi government’s communication policies. He said that the Government, through the Ministry of Information, has been working tirelessly for years to create a transparent and empowering Malawi, expressing optimism that the MERP Communication Strategy will address these strategic objectives.

The Director announced that the government, through the Ministry of Information, will soon launch its own communication strategy, and the MERP communication strategy will be integrated into the consolidated communication policy document. He encouraged the participants, who are experts from the fields of communication and education, to contribute to the refinement of the MERP communication strategy.

Mtumodzi stated that the Ministry of Information, with a presence in all 28 districts of the country, is fully prepared to support the strategy. He also urged MERP to collaborate with Ministry of Information officers in districts to disseminate program messages to hard-to-reach areas in Malawi. He applauded the collaboration between the Ministries of Information and Education, as both play complementary roles in serving the public.
